Seven Bridges – A lucky place

Having lived in Saint Petersburg for a while, and certainly in Russia in general, it is possible to notice that superstitions are still very important for the Russian people. Little details such as not to greet someone if on different sides of the entrance of a home, or to not receive the money directly by hand are part of traditions which can be surprising to newcomers.

Sometimes these superstitions are concentrated on specific locations, such as the cross of the Kryukov and Griboyedov canal, the place called “the Seven Bridges”. I actually remember having been there many times before I got the meaning of that place. It’s even a good point for photographers looking for a nice view: the domes of Saint Nicholas cathedral and the Trinity church are visible from here, but none of them will grant you a wish. That will only happen if from this spot you are able to see and count seven bridges. True? I’m not superstitious, but last year I traveled a lot… so who knows…
