I always thought that fancy alternative coffee brews are not available between Sennaya and Tekhnologicheskiy Institut subway stations.
I knew that if I walked closer to Kruykov canal, I’d find Coffelosophy (check out the article). But here, right on the Fontanka embankment? And still, here it is, “Kharakter Kofe” (“The character of coffee” in Russian).
I like quiet places. This one has the university on the other side of the avenue but not so many students could afford a fancy coffee break, so it’s really not crowded. Sometimes there are people working on their laptops, sometimes it’s just relaxed chatting and sipping.
They serve occasional brunches but mostly it’s drinks and desserts. I liked the chocolate muffin cake so much that I returned two days later to have it again. I’m a picky eater and here desserts are not too sweet or artificial, they’re delicious.
Coffee is also good and original here. The owners work with small coffee roasting businesses so you can try something special, just like at Verlé Garden.
Sometimes they also serve nitro cold brew, “cold brew coffee charged with nitrogen to give it a rich, creamy head” as Wikipedia says. Come to see what you would like to try today!
