Ballast Coffee is my go-to coffee spot in the West Portal neighborhood. As San Francisco gets more and more crowded, I feel like Ballast is a place that not many people know about so I can count on always finding a space to sit down and read or work on my laptop and get some peace and quiet.
That’s not to say that it’s always empty because Ballast has its many fans. I love how bright and airy the shop is and there is an outdoor patio in the back to enjoy when the sun is out. Of course their coffee is delicious and I always like to get a barako cappuccino or a barako iced latte when the weather is warm. Barako is a coffee varietal from the Philippines and is a little bit stronger than your regular cup of coffee.
I also can’t resist the donuts they offer from local donut shop, Dynamo Donut. The passionfruit chocolate donut is my favorite! On top of all this, the staff is always really friendly. It’s really easy for me to go back to Ballast Coffee again and I go there at least once a week! I’d love to keep this neighborhood gem to myself but I’m happy to share everything good about Ballast.
