Black Bird Bookstore in San Francisco’s Outer Sunset neighborhood is a relatively new bookstore to the city but it has quickly become one of my favorites. Black Bird Bookstore is so unique in that they don’t cram tons of books on every shelf. Instead, they focus on quality versus quantity and carefully curate their collection of fiction, non fiction, cookbooks, and children’s books. I don’t feel overwhelmed while I’m browsing the selection and I always know I can walk out the door with something good to read.
I also love how Black Bird Bookstore is designed. It makes me feel like I’m entering someone’s living room with the hardwood floors, home-ware products on display, and comfy couches and an outdoor patio at the back to sit down and read. Black Bird Bookstore makes every effort to create a strong community which I think is one of the key benefits of bookstores everywhere. Every Saturday morning, they have a free story time for all ages and they hold other events periodically including floral workshops, author readings, and fundraisers.
The bookstore is situated on a great block next to coffee shops, restaurants, and clothing stores so there is also seating in front of the store to read and enjoy the foggy weather in this beachside neighborhood in San Francisco.
