The city is full of unexpected surprises and just the other day I found myself discovering another one as I ventured down Pacific Avenue between Van Ness and Polk St.
I don’t walk down this Russian Hill Street very often, so imagine my excitement at finding Firehouse 8! This spot is not any ordinary firehouse because it’s no longer functioning as one. It seems that it was in disrepair for some years until someone had the bright idea to clean it up and turn it into a fantastic communal and creative space. Now it retains its historic charm and is quite cool. Today, it’s a mixed used art and performance venue hosting everything from a small cafe, art exhibits, independent fashion designers, film festivals, pop-up brunches, foodie events and random private functions.
There are three floors available for private rentals along with several regularly scheduled public events. When I spotted this place, there was a cafe, great art on the walls and enterprising local men’s fashion designer selling his wares as part of a weekend pop-up store.
I’ve added my name to their email list, and I’m now looking forward to attending events on a regular basis. Be sure to check it out for yourself and I will hopefully see you there!
