Fort Point is a luscious historic site and a spot I love because of its incredible variety of textures, shapes and colors, providing for some fantastic photos! The late afternoon light that streams through the masonry structure of Fort Point creates such a beautiful, warm glow.
Fort Point, a National Historic Site, is no doubt in the guidebooks due to its history and incredible view of the Golden Gate Bridge. For me however, capturing the light and shadows in my photographs while walking through the brick arches or the inside the powder magazine – where barrels of cannon powder are stored – is my favorite thing to do at Fort Point. Many people head straight to the top to see the Golden Gate Bridge and miss these other really cool areas.
Another bonus to exploring Fort Point is watching the surfers riding the waves directly under the bridge. There’s a cutout section of wall in a spot on the level just below the top of Fort Point where I like to aim my camera to catch the underside of the bridge and the surfers below in the same shot. Fort Point really is a magical place and a photographer’s dream!
