Gump's San Francisco

Gump’s – An SF institution

OK…so I realize that Gump’s is in a touristy part of San Francisco, Union Square, but I love this store because it has a history in this city AND awesome Christmas decorations! During the holiday season, my entrance through the front door of Gump’s, pleasantly smacks me in the face with over-the-top (in a good way) holiday decorations, ornaments and Christmas trees!

Items at Gump’s are a bit on the higher-priced end, and for good reason! Their impeccable products really are different than what you’ll find at other stores; they devote themselves to sourcing products from all over the world, made by top international designers and craftspeople. Whether I’m looking for a fantastic-smelling candle or a special pair of earrings, I always feel like I can find something that perfectly fits the personality of the person I’m buying for.

What I also love about Gump’s is that it has been around for more than 150 years. And, there is only one Gump’s! Opened in 1861 by Gertrude Gump and her husband, Gump’s had to rebuild and restock their store after the destruction of the 1906 earthquake so you can imagine the fortitude and resilience of the member of the Gump family.

Gump’s is not for everyone but it’s worth a visit to see if it just might be for you! It is a spot for me!
