San Francisco has many well-known ice cream spots, but Mr. & Mrs. Miscellaneous is the best I’ve been to (I’ve tried them all), and because of its location in the Dogpatch, it remains somewhat of a hidden gem. Though it’s less hyped compared to favorites like Bi-Rite and Salt & Straw, people who’ve tried them all tend to agree.
The interior is clean but unassuming and the hours are a challenge- they generally close at 5pm. But its elusive location and timings just add to the appeal.
I think this place is special because their flavors are unique and authentic to their namesakes; I’ve never been disappointed. I’ve tried Mint, Pumpkin, Vanilla, Lychee and Tropical Black Tea– and it’s the first ice cream experience I’ve had where I feel like I’m tasting the real thing- like ice cream with made with mint plucked from a bush, not its flavored, sugared version. It’s by far the freshest ice cream I’ve ever tasted. The flavors change often, but you can always sample before you buy.
The Dogpatch has many great spots- so do some exploring first and come here after for dessert.
