Sutro Baths – Beautiful ruins by the ocean

One the things I love about San Francisco is that there are so many urban escapes without ever having to leave the city, and the Sutro Baths is one such place.

The Sutro Baths are located at one end of Ocean Beach in between the Cliff House and the Lands End trail. I love coming here before I go for a hike on the Lands End Trail either to stand on the lookout over the baths or to take the steps down to the baths to get closer to the sand and water and walk up and along the ruins. It’s such a great place to take photos and be closer to the water and there is so much history behind the Sutro Baths.

It used to be a bathhouse starting all the way back in 1894 so that people could come swim and enjoy other recreational activities such as art, music, and food. How beautiful it must have been then and how beautiful it is today to have these ruins on the shores of the city.
