Opera is one of the oldest places in Sarajevo for downtown coffee or drinks, depending on the occasion. I can’t even count the number of times my friends and I spent in Opera having morning coffee after skipping classes. Our favourite two tables were the ones next to the window and we would be there before everybody else. Those were great memories and to this day Opera is one of my favourite places.
The interior has changed a few times over the years, sometimes for better, sometimes for worse, but it has kept its atmosphere and local customers aged from mid-twenties to forties. I prefer Opera in fall and winter, especially for daytime coffee. Since I don’t regularly go out in the evening I can’t recommend it for a night out, but for daytime and late afternoons it is perfect.
It’s usually crowded starting at noon when people take a break for a coffee and talk. They often organise after-work parties with good music and affordable drink prices, usually on Wednesdays after 17:00. But for me, “early” morning noon coffee in Opera on weekends is still a favourite.
