It will be very hard for me to describe this place considering how much it means to me and how much my friends and I have invested in it. It all started a year ago when the president of Youth Council Municipality Stari Grad discovered a small park near our office. The park was full of construction waste, old glass and other garbage — it was practically a landfill. We started working there and step by step we changed its appearance. It took us almost a year of hard work to remove everything that doesn’t belong there. It’s impossible to say how many working actions we have had there and how many volunteers participated.
Looking at so many colors there I always feel like every person who did something there left a part of his/her soul. We’re building a stage, bar and community garden at the moment. It is slowly becoming a peaceful place that brings out the best in people! Youngsters come here to study, hang out or to help with our work. Considering that the name of the place is ‘Slobodna zona’, which literally means ‘free area’, everybody is invited to visit and do their thing or to help with the work. You won’t find a place that radiates with such a wonderful energy anywhere near, so when in Sarajevo, try not to miss it!
