“Torte i to” literarily translates as cakes an’ all. This “i to (an’ all)” is pure Sarajevo slang, ages old and very present in everyday conversations. Therefore, when I first heard about the new cake shop in the opening I thought to myself: “Judging by the name, this will be a winner”. My expectations were so high, I could barely wait for the outcome. I swear — the time slowed down as I counted down the days until the opening. And voilà! My expectations were met and I completely fell in love with their magical cheesecake. Since I usually avoid dairy products, I made myself a promise to keep the visits to Torte i to only for special occasions.
A few years after the opening, I moved to the new neighborhood and came across their kitchen located in the building next to mine. I could smell the freshly baked cakes anytime I’d go out and come back home. What a soothing feeling that was. Soon, I met a few of their kitchen staff and learned that the ladies come from the families of local farmers which are the suppliers of the materials used in Torte i to’s products. Wow! It’s not only the outstanding cakes but also the ingredients are 100% local.
There’s one more thing about this cherished spot of mine – their terrace. I prefer to have my cheesecake outside and savor the view wishing life could always be this good.
