There’s one place that I just love. Yellow Bastion…Romantic, adorable, photogenic.
The Yellow Bastion is part of the old walls which protected the city, built in the 18th century and it is part of the history of Sarajevo. It’s also called Top, because from that place during the Ramadan cannon shots mark the start of Iftar.
The Yellow bastion is up on the hills and it’s often part of my walking routine that becomes rewarded by the most amazing view of the city. I often go up there and never take a cab or a bus; I always walk up.
Sometimes me and my friends decide to go there spontaneously in the middle of the summer heat. I love to sit on the stones facing the city or take a blanket and sit on the ground in Spring time. Last summer there was a newly opened cafe, with tables all around the edges of the bastion, but there were still some free spots where one can sit, either on a bench or the grass and really take in the atmosphere.
The bastion reflects the city and always looks different; during each part of the day and seasons. I love it when I show it to people who’ve never come there before, watching how they fall in love with this amazing place. Because I am always smitten, no matter how many times I see it.
