I LOVE ice cream, year-round. So, naturally, one of my first endeavors as a new Seattleite was to hunt for the best ice cream in town. I didn’t need to look far: Molly Moon’s Homemade Ice cream has proven to be my favorite treat. I even named my goldendoodle – Molly – after this place.
Established in 2009, Molly Moon’s has several shops in Seattle, but the one I first visited and the most accessible to out-of-towners is the original on Capitol Hill.
The interior is very inviting, and the sweet smell of freshly baked waffle cones will lure you in. Molly Moon’s generous sample policy will let you taste as many flavors as you like to make sure you get it right. Ever the indecisive customer, I love that Molly Moon’s cuts to the chase and offers only the best: 10 ‘always’ mouth-watering flavors and 4 or so seasonal ones to keep things interesting. The scoops are HUGE (at least by European standards), so check your appetite before you decide to have more than one (you can always have samples of the rest). Try the Scout Mint or Maple Walnut – they’re to die for!
I also love Molly’s mission and visions: Ingredients are 90% locally sourced or from local companies like Stumpton Coffee and Theo Chocolate. Molly Moon’s donates to local non-profits, supports public school programs and treats food bank customers, and takes pride in paying its staff living wages, free health care, paid family leave, and sick leave.
