Retreat – What a treat! – best coffee in Green Lake

I’ve discovered a new favorite place in Seattle to hang out: retreat (yes, it’s spelled with a lowercase “r”) in Green Lake. It’s my new go-to place for coffee with my running friends after our morning run around Green Lake, the place I go to write in the afternoons, and a favorite introduction to the Seattle way of life of good food and coffee in a relaxed atmosphere for friends from out of town.
There are other good coffee shops around the shores of Green Lake, but none that serve as delicious food and pastries to go with their excellent, smooth coffee. The décor gives out a really nice vibe: from the black and white elegant forest-themed wallpaper on the “work zone” part of the place to the upside-down wooden canoe suspended from the ceiling with plants hanging down from it and the beautiful, brightly painted mural of colorful birds and birdhouses by the bar. You can hang out there all day! Start with coffee and one of the mouthwatering pastries in the morning, stay for lunch for a veggie sandwich or salmon lox toast, and come back later for one of their signature cocktails. Happy hour is from 16:00 – 18:00.
It’s a great place to work or just hang out, and they’ll allow you to bring your puppy inside if it’s well behaved – it’s my golden doodle’s favorite hangout, maybe because she gets to go for a long walk around Green Lake afterwards, if she’s behaved while I’ve been working 🙂
