Seattle is a great foodie destination, not only for the eating-out gourmands but also for the home gourmets, whatever your level is – great local produce to be found year-round at local farmer’s markets (see my article on the Ballard Farmer’s Market) and some of the great organic supermarkets like PCC and Wholefoods, delicious fresh seafood readily available, etc. And, if you need some inspiration, or just love reading cookbooks for fun like I do, you should definitely check out the Book Larder in Fremont – a cute local bookstore devoted entirely to cookbooks!
Not only do they have any cookbook imaginable (and will give you excellent recommendations if you need a little inspiration), they also have a demonstration kitchen counter at the back of the store that they use to host cooking classes, author talks, and their signature monthly Lunch Breaks – the best deal in town if you have a little free time around noon and an appetite to try something new. The Book Larder’s culinary director will cook a couple of dishes from a featured cookbook, and you get to sit around the counter while she’s cooking, ask questions, and eat the food afterward. The best lunch deal in town, in my opinion.
So next time you find asking yourself what to cook for a weeknight or you’re having people over for dinner, head over to the Book Larder first for some inspiration. They also have an online shop.
