Have you ever seen a Kurosawa movie? Are a fan of the new wave’s Godard? Or more into classical Italian comedy? The Cinémathèque is dedicated to bringing what they like to think of as essential cinema. Whether classics, rarely-seen gems or documentaries, these are movie experiences that stay with you long after you’ve left: movies that will inspire you by their meaning; movies that make you question your beliefs.
Since its founding in 1974, the Cinematheque has become the most knowledgeable and respected showcase of historical works from international cinema. Their monthly program is always innovative and entertaining and to further the understanding of the disciplines of film and video art, they also offer retrospectives and independent features or documentaries. The most interesting part is that almost every month they pay respect to a specific country’s cinematography offering their finest movies for a week’s marathon.
If you are tired of blockbusters this place has tons to offer you. The 120-seat theater is quite small but they screen the movies in their original version and subtitles are always provided. I treat myself a movie quite often and I have never regret it. No doubt you will feel the same way.
