The Bulgarian name of this place is Чай във Фабриката which means Tea in the factory because it is located in a former paper factory. It sets itself apart with its old red walls. Yes, it is another hidden gem in the city and is perfect for Insta photos!
This tea house is a cosy lounge in retro style (there is even a piano inside it), tea shop, vegan and vegetarian food restaurant and space for live music jazz concerts, so check their upcoming events on Facebook if you plan to go (especially after 6pm).
It also organizes children’s workshops on weekend mornings, poetry readings and other cultural events.
The variety of teas is really good and there are Bulgarian teas and herbs you can try. My suggestions for you are Mursalsky chay, Samodivski chay and Rosa Damascena.
You can order a glass or a teapot.
If you are in the area around noon: check their daily lunch menu on Facebook. It usually consists of soup, a main dish, dessert & tea/drink of the day.
But whatever you decide, don’t miss the desserts: ask the waiter or check them in the showcase next to the bar. Usually there is a choice of vegetarian, non-sugary, glutten-free and raw ones!
If you plan a walk after your visit of the Tea House you are like 10 minutes on foot from the Sofia Ancient Serdica Archaeological Complex or you can choose to spend some time in The backyard of the palace garden.
