It is not easy to spot gems among countless generic souvenir stores in Tallinn's Old Town – but REaD second-hand bookstore is one of them. I love their self-explanatory system – 1 book 3 Euros; 4 books 10 Euros. When buying in bulk, try some friendly haggling.
The store is tiny, think TV series Black Books, sans the snarky attitude. Despite being small in size, REad is packed with books, so don't underestimate the time you are going to be spending there. REad also sells old postcards, maps, other paper goods and some ceramics. A lot of books are in Estonian, but a nice selection also in English, Russian, German... the list goes on, and the staff is really helpful and knowledgeable, so ask for a recommendation.
During summer, REad hosts book sales in a small park by their building – Roheline Turg (Green Market) and during colder seasons in Balti Jaama Turg.
When staying in Tallinn for a little longer, you might want to check out REaD's book club.
