My son is a big fan of lighthouses, and this year, the doors of one of Tallinn’s lighthouses were finally opened for us.
It’s not a very big lighthouse, but it has a balcony — and that’s the magic. From there, you can enjoy views of Tallinn from a whole new angle, on the opposite side of the city.
The Tallinn Upper Lighthouse (Tallinna ülemine tuletorn) is one of the oldest range lights in Estonia, guiding sailors for more than 180 years! It leads ships safely to the Port of Tallinn and is both an important navigation landmark and a piece of cultural heritage.
Built in 1896 from limestone in the Lasnamäe area, the tower stands 80 meters above sea level and works together with the Tallinn Lower Lighthouse to form a range line. Inside, there is a spiral staircase of 182 steps — and once you reach the top, you’re rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views over the city and the sea.
A small tower with a big story — and one more lighthouse checked off my son’s list

Step into Pierre Chocolaterie at the charming Masters’ Courtyard of local artisans. It's where my heart was stolen by a truffle filled with gorgonzola cheese.
