In one of the most picturesque areas of Tampere, Lapinniemi, there is a charming café called Ansari. “Ansari” is an old Finnish word for greenhouse, and the building, which is from 1913, was originally the greenhouse for the Lapinniemi cotton mill. The manufacturer’s wife used it for growing plants here.
The place could really be described as a hidden gem, a treasure that can easily go unnoticed. The beautiful skylight windows bring natural right into the idyllic cafeteria surroundings. Through the glass roof, you can see the leaves of the surrounding trees. The variety of pastries and cakes here is simply astonishing for such a hidden place. All of them melt in your mouth. I promise you will get lost in their gourmet tea menu that is at least 6-pages long.
I come to Ansari for a cup of coffee or lunch (they serve soup lunch and Italian parila breads) whenever I’m nearby. I usually open one of the books they have there on sale and enjoy the moment without rush.
The area of Lapinniemi is located by the huge lake of Näsijärvi, so the views here are stunning all year round. The red-brick building of the above-mentioned cotton mill is still located here, now occupied by a spa hotel.
