Whenever I’m in the centre of Tampere and need something quick to eat or to take away, I often like to go the Salad Bar that’s situated on the lower floor of the department store Sokos. It is just in the midst of everything, so there are a lot of fancier places nearby, but this is a place that’s very popular with the locals especially around lunchtime.
Last time I visited the salad bar, there were 12 different salads and 10 different dressings to choose from. Also, salads for special diets are available. This time I took the veggie salad for only 4,80€ with spicy ”Hungarian dressing” made of e.g. bell pepper & garlic.
The salad eaten at this spot includes also a bun or Finnish rye bread, water from the tap (safe and good to drink in Finland) and coffee or tea for dessert. Take away is the same without drinks. My husband works nearby and is often late at work. If I happen to be around, I may grab a take-away salad for him and take it to his office.
The four-storey department store is nice, too. It has clothes for adults, accessories, shoes, cosmetics & perfumes, homeware, a book department, a food & liquor store, a post office and cafes – and all in the same spot. in the very centre of Tampere. It has been running on this same spot since 1972!
