Quite fittingly, this Spy Museum is hidden away in the basement of the Finlayson Area. It is also officially the first museum about international espionage, which I find curious to find right here, in the heart of Tampere. I honestly always dismissed this museum as being something frivolous, but once I visited it, it’s actually quite amazing what information you are able to find here.
While the museum itself is actually quite a small space, there is a ton of information on the history of espionage, ranging from the prehistory until modern days, from all corners of the earth. Of course, it mentions important historical figures, including the inspirations of superspies found in Hollywood. What I find the most fun part of the museum is that a lot of the exhibitions are interactive! For example, you can decipher morse-code, see on a computer how digital message interception works, or my favorite, walk through a dark tunnel where an eavesdropping device is hidden, which can be accessed from anywhere in the world!
The Spy Museum also offers special arrangements and events for group tours, birthday parties, school trips, even bachelor parties! You can undergo a lie detector test or try and pass a special “agent test” if you’re up for a challenge!
