Interested in urban history, stories of the city? Are you a visual type? Nice, so am I! That’s why street art works for me as well as other great sights in every city I visit. In it, the artist always has some kind of story or vision in their head, and as a viewer I wonder what kind of story there might be behind any picture.
There are several murals or wall paintings in Tampere, and some in the city center. I find it wonderful that the city gets a little color and its stories and values into pictures. If I think about myself, often the first thing that comes to mind when traveling is the murals I encountered during my expeditions.
As you look at Tampere from the tops of the trees, you will notice that there are many chimneys in the city. Tampere was once a well-known factory city. Nowadays, most of the factory operations have been relocated, but the beautiful chimneys have been retained as historical memories.
The street art piece on the stone wall of Tako (carton factory) at Laukontori reflects the history of Tampere, from the early days of Tammerkoski to the modern cityscape. I think the work is fascinating and beautifully executed.
