Botanical Garden of Tbilisi – Green corner

As you already know, I work as a guide and I love walking and trekking tours as much as cultural ones. If I can’t go to the mountains for hiking, I know some places in the city where I can go for walking. One of the best places for pleasant walks is the National Botanical Garden of Georgia. the so-called Botanical Garden of Tbilisi. It’s one of the oldest gardens in Georgia. It lies behind Narikala fortress in the Tsavkisistskhali Valley. The Georgian kings resided In the citadel of the Narikala fortress for a long time because it was the safest place. Behind the walls, the kings made a beautiful royal garden in the year 1625. In 1801 the Russian Tsar Empire occupied Georgia. After the Russian occupation, the kingdom was also abolished, so the botanical garden in Tbilisi was made from the old royal gardens.

For nature lovers it is a real paradise. The country lies between the Black Sea in the west and the Caspian Sea in the east, as well as two mountain ranges: the Great Caucasus with its 5000s in the north and the small Caucasus in the south. This leads to an astonishing and rare variety of different climatic zones and high biodiversity. This diversity makes Georgia one of the 25 most important biodiversity hotspots on Earth.

I like to go there for a walk even in winter, and during walking I sometimes think that, once upon a time, even kings went came a walk here.
