Augosto Boal, Brazilian theatre practitioner and founder of Theatre of the Oppressed, once said: “Theatre is a form of knowledge”. It should and can also be a means of transforming society. Theatre can help us build our future, rather than just waiting for it. And I can’t disagree with him.

All forms of art, and especially theater, shape or reshape our inner world and our views towards life along with it. It has a great influence on our souls, feelings and moral values. That’s why it’s important to incorporate it into our lives.

Talking about theatre, the first thing that comes to mind is Rezo Gabriadze – a Georgian artist, writer, painter and director who is internationally known for his mature puppet performances full of depth and meaning.

Reso Gabriadze Puppet Theatre was founded in 1981 in his hometown, Tbilisi. There are only 80 seats, so make sure to book in advance. All the puppets and decorations are made by him with love and care.

Although the puppets’ faces are painted you can still feel their facial expression during the performance – so much drama, so many emotions, so much feeling. No matter how hard I try to express the experience with words, it will never be accurate enough, but one thing I can tell: theatre is a weapon and Garbiadze has used it in the right way.
