So you’ve done your fair share of exploring Georgian cuisine, but now you want some variety in your meals. If you enjoy Asian food, I know just the place for you – Korean diner “Mokkoji”.
Unlike other Asian restaurants, Mokkoji is located away from the touristic center of Tbilisi, near metro station “Tsereteli”. This gives you two advantages. Number one, Mokkoji is rarely crowded. Number two, prices here are lower than in many other catering establishments offering Asian cuisine.
As a major lover of Korean food, I was really delighted to find Mokkoji (imagine my happiness, as it is just a bus stop away from my home!). The place is managed by two lovely Korean ladies who also reign over the kitchen. The diner is quite small but it is always sparkling clean; the owners are friendly, smiling, and remember their frequent guests personally.
The food is delicious and practically qualifies as homemade. My personal favourites are the kimchi bokkeumbap (fried rice), sweet’n’sour chicken, and kimchi jjigae (stew). This last one was a special revelation for me, as I am not a big fan of liquid dishes (i.e. any type of soup). But the kimchi stew stole my heart on a cold winter evening – it’s nourishing, it’s tasty, and it warms you up like nothing else.
