My friends know I can’t resist good hummus, especially when it’s cooked per family recipe from generation to generation. Abu Hassan is one of the long running family hummus places. If I rephrase Kelis’ song, it would be like “Abu Hassan’s hummus brings all the boys to the yard”. Hummus addicts come from far away to Jaffa to wait in a line for their turn to grab a seat and satisfy their craving for hummus.
The venue contains 5 tables for 4 people inside and 2 tiny tables outside, but don’t be surprised to see 8 friends huddling around the table for 4. As expected all the tables are shared, so be ready to find yourself a seat beside complete strangers gobbling hummus.
There is no menu, it’s actually one of those places where you have to know exactly what you want. I order the regular hummus (see the header picture), it’s served with pita bread, sliced onion and very (!) spicy green sauce. You are expected to eat fast in order to make your seat available for the next hummus lover waiting in line. After you’re done, approach the register and pay.
Please notice, Fridays are always the busiest here.
P.S. Takeaway available.
