La Gaterie (little treat in French) is a small, almost secret place – you’re probably going to miss it the first time you pass it. It’s located on Ben-Yehuda street, at its north end, between Arlozorov and Jabotinsky. The place serves only croissants, filled with cheese, deli meats and poached egg, which altogether create a dreamy sandwich. When you order, you’re going to be asked if you’d like them to add blue cheese, say yes, it makes it even better (and there is no charge for it).
I’ve visited La Gaterie many times, usually after a long happy hour at the Mate (Dizengoff 184), when your stomach demands some padding. Beside the fabulous croissants, on the bar you’ll find magnets with cool prints on them. The magnets are made by one of the workers, and I found that they are excellent as a gifts for friends, or for yourself (they’re also cheap, 10 Nis for one).
I’ve never tried it, but I’ve been told that beside the standard croissants, you can also order a sweet croissant, with chocolate or jam.
