This recent addition to TLV’s food scene is (almost) all I could dream of as a Japan lover. If you asked me what the most amazing and fascinating country and city in the world is, my answer without any hesitation: Japan and Tokyo. I’ve traveled 5 times to the land of the rising sun.
First of all the location of this spot is semi-hidden. It’s part of a recently opened food market in the very heart of TLV on the corner of Allenby and Rotschild, but the izakaya (traditional Japanese gustropub) entrance is situated on the Yavne side just before the back gate and without many signs to disclose this gem.
You get a Tokyo vibe the moment you step inside – short noren curtains at the door, an open kitchen with a shared low bar around the kitchen and along the window walls, Japanese music in the background… Plus, the place is tiny in comparison to “regular” bars and cafes. It’s like a Tokyo getaway in TLV!
Unfortunately it’s not a vegan place but they offer authentic and mouthwatering vegan options clearly marked on the menu: tofu agadashi ramen and curry ramen for mains, tofu agadashi for starters and mushroom gioza. No less importantly, I’m pretty sure it’s the only place in TLV where you can get Kirin beer on tap. Don’t be shy – add chilli oil to the bowl of ramen.
Everytime I’m at Men TenTen, I could easily teleport to Shibuya or Shinjuku if I close my eyes.
