I don’t remember when it started, but during the last few years there has been an ongoing competition for the best vegan burger in Tel Aviv. Every couple of months the most updated rating is posted by every food section of every media – magazines, blogs, newspapers and even TV programs. Sometimes it seems like every Tel Avivian has his or her own favorite place for vegan burgers. In Tel Aviv you don’t actually have to be vegan to have your own personal best vegan burger place; most likely you will have at least one vegan friend who drags you with him to explore vegan spots. Trust me, I am that vegan friend :-).
Rainbow is a relatively new player in the bubbling food scene of Tel Aviv. It’s a 100% vegan joint centrally situated in front of the City Hall. This is my very best vegan burger place in Tel Aviv and the whole of Israel and can proudly compete with the divine vegan burgers of Krowarzywa in Warsaw.
The burger patty, made of a perfect combination of soya and mushrooms, mimics the taste and texture of the “real” thing. The place itself is very casual: you order at the counter and can have a seat outdoors and enjoy people watching – trust me it’s fun! – or you can go inside the small room with a couch and small bar table. I prefer this fast way of getting my burger fix over a prolonged restaurant ritual.
