I like street art as a rule, I also like the unusual. It is not every day you run into street art statues.

Shabazi’s sleeping cat has been part of the scenery for the last 5 years at least. It’s a piece of wood carving carved into a big tree stump located at 15 Shabazi street. The tree stump reminds me of the children’s book “The Giving Tree” and is a sign of what we lose with progress as it was most likely cut down because it got too big and was disturbing the buildings or power lines around it.

The work to my knowledge was and still is unsigned.

Originally the cat was only half of the work and there was a poem that went with it. But as street art goes the poem is no longer part of this lovely work.

So go and pet a sleeping tree cat. It’s a little piece of Neve Tzedek charm.
