I love urban legends and I love hidden city sights! The statue of Lion is one of them. The statue is situated on a side alley just around one of my favorite streets of Tel Aviv – King George street. You can easily pass this spot if you don’t know where you need to take a turn. Thank God I’m here to assist you to squeeze the maximum out of Tel Aviv.
The story about the alley has no actual source to rely on and it has different versions, so I’m gonna tell you the one I love:). Meir Getzel Shapira was a building constructor in the 1920’s. He built 2 alleys – one dedicated to his loved one Sonya but the city mayor expressed his protest and the alley was renamed to temporary Plonit (Anonymous) which became permanent.
This spot is located between Carmel market and Dizengoff center with lots of shops and food stalls near the statue on King George street.
