Tokyo Taiyaki Story The Hague – A Japanese delight

"I tried the miso and “anko taiyaki” and I thought it tasted absolutely wonderful. Tokyo Taiyaki offers pastries with a gluten-free dough as well."
I discovered Tokyo Taiyaki by chance, walking past it and seeing happy people leaving with what looked like a waffle shaped as a fish. As I am a curious person by nature and game to try anything food-related, I thought I’d give it a shot. A really lovely Japanese lady runs Tokyo Taiyaki, a small shop which has a couple of chairs and a bar in it, but is really more of a takeaway place. In case you’re not yet familiar with Taiyaki (I wasn’t!), it is a Japanese fish-shaped pastry or waffle containing different fillings, such as red bean paste or miso, and is often sold as street food.

Tokyo Taiyaki is the first store-baked taiyaki shop in the Netherlands, as I later found out, and is located right in The Hague’s city centre, a stone’s throw away from the central train station. I tried the miso and “anko taiyaki” and I thought it tasted absolutely wonderful. It is good to know that Tokyo Taiyaki also offers pastries with a gluten-free dough for an extra euro. Tokyo Taiyaki also has ice cream, “onigiri” and a range of Japanese beverages, including matcha options.
