*Alert* Colette was saved from closure with a crowdfunding project. Great! However, if you want to experience the real deal, visit soon, because things will only get tidier from now on!
Don’t visit this antiquarian bookstore with luggage or a backpack because you need to be fully hands-free and agile. If the obstructed front door doesn’t put you off from entering further, then you’ve reached level 1. Keep going, my friend. It’s worth it.
Now you’re either speechless or really excited because there are books everywhere, and it’s a maze. You have to make a decision: left, right or down the middle aisle. You better be quick, because if someone else enters the shop now, your movements are limited. Anyone with organising or tidying compulsions has already run away crying at this point.
If you are still in the shop, well done, there is a treasure to be found. If you can’t find it, ask any of the employees, all dedicated to upholding the legacy of owner Jogchum de Vries. The shop has been in the Reinkenstraat for more than 20 years now, Jochum is a true bookworm, and in his own words, his shop “… is a bit chaotic, but I’m happiest here, surrounded by books”.
This charming shop is worth a visit. You get 1000 bonus points if you make it back outside without knocking over a tower of books.
