Don’t visit this antiquarian bookstore with luggage, shopping or even a backpack , because you will need to be fully hands-free and agile. If the obstructed front door doesn’t put you off from entering further, then you’ve reached level 1. Keep going, my friend, it’s worth it.
So now you’re either speechless or really excited because there are books absolutely everywhere and it’s a maze. You have to make a decision: left, right or down the middle aisle. You better be quick too, because if someone else enters the shop now your movements are limited. Anyone with any kind of organising or tidying compulsion has already run away crying at this point, but it’s understandable.
If you are still in the shop, keep going, because there is treasure to be found. If you can’t find it yourself, just ask the owner Jogchum de Vries and if he has the book or record in question, he will know where to find it. I honestly don’t know how he does it, because the shop has been in the Reinkenstraat for more than 20 years now and it looks like every centimetre is in use. Jogchum is a true bookworm and in his own words his shop “… is a bit chaotic but I’m happiest here, surrounded by books”.
This charming shop is definitely worth a visit just for the experience, and you get 1000 bonus points if you make it back outside without knocking over a tower of books.
