Sometimes you want a sexy coffee. A flat white with almond milk and Van Gogh’s Sunflowers artfully drawn in the milk froth. And sometimes you just want a coffee.
No soy milk or latte art at Koffiehuis ‘t Statenplein but I’ll tell you what it does have; someone who greets you when you walk in, diner style tables and a full view of the place wherever you sit; clean tables (!) and a full range of condiments on the table, daily papers, lace curtains and regulars discussing the pros and cons of electric cars or the latest ADO Den Haag football score. The regulars come with the place and you will be checked out when you walk in, so get over it and enjoy your coffee.
You can also eat here. There’s a menu, but you can basically ask for any variation of a roll (soft, white) or try the national cuisine; bitterballen (fried balls of something meat), bal gehakt (a ball of something meat) or patat. Service is always friendly no matter who you are, and it’s super fast. The koffiehuis is a real Den Haag phenomenon; they are dotted around the city and all follow the same concept. Somewhere to talk, to have a laugh and hear the latest, to get fed and have a coffee. It’s cheap, cheerful and down to earth.
