I have always been interested in politics and social studies and I still like listening to a good debate or an interesting lecture. So once in a while, you will find me in debate centre Nieuwspoort, located within The Hague’s city center next to the Binnenhof and the Hofvijver.

Grand events
The nice Jugendstil / Art deco building in which Nieuwspoort is housed used to be Grand Hotel Central The Hague. Nowadays, it is part of the Binnenhof complex. Nieuwspoort organizes about two debates or lectures per week around topics like politics, journalism, science and emancipation. Most gatherings are in Dutch. If an event is in English, that is announced in the agenda. In case you like eating just before or after visiting an event, combine your entrance ticket with the Chef’s special and have dinner at the Nieuwspoort restaurant. As well as a debate center, Nieuwspoort is also an international press center and society for Dutch members of Parliament and (political) journalists. Therefore, Nieuwspoort is only accessible for the general public during the events listed in the agenda.

Nowadays Nieuwspoort streams all events and keeps these live streams available for rewatching. So go and check the website yourself, most likely you’ll find something of interest there too.
