NOOK The Hague

NOOK – A cosy sheltered space of fun

This is a gallery unlike most galleries I have been to, and I have a few theories about that. Actually, NOOK is both a gallery and a shop, which means that as well as the artwork on the walls, there are also products on sale (more on that in a bit). This gallery, compared to the many others I have visited, is unpretentious and has an infectious fun vibe that starts with the eye-catching window dressing and continues inside, where I immediately want to look around and examine everything up close. It’s so not like other galleries that can feel austere and high-brow.

Also different here at NOOK is the range in price of the artwork for sale, it’s definitely more accessible to a wider public than a typical gallery. And this is where I think the heart of NOOK lies; to offer a welcoming space for everyone to enjoy and to be inspired by art. It works for me!

So what’s inside? The walls are decorated with beautiful illustrations by 8 different artists and in the small shop area you can find ceramics, wonderful handcrafted interior items and even olive oil and salt. These shop products are all from Portugal, just like the friends and owners of NOOK, Cila and Cristina.

Located on the bustling Weimarstraat, you can find plenty more unique shops and cafes to browse after your visit.
