Maybe the Peace Palace and Dutch royalty put The Hague ‘on the map’ but Thank You, Stanley & Livingstone speciality travel bookstore, for putting The Hague ‘on the globe’.
As a major retailer of globes, the owners of Stanley & Livingstone were in good stead with the German globe manufacturer Columbus and gently but persistently asked if it wasn’t about time that The Hague got recognition. Well, peer pressure works, don’t you know, and now you can find ‘D.Haag’ on their globes next to those other cities (Amsterdam and Rott).
Alongside an impressive array of globes, maps galore and travel guides, novels and travel stories. This shop will make any of us happy adventurers slightly giddy. Of course, we can find anything we want online! Of course, there are great city guide apps to help you discover the best places!
The shop has now moved to become a shop in a shop on the Herengracht, so it has lost the original old-time feel, but the resources are still the same.
Go and pay for your treasure, and instead of requesting the requisite additional 10 cents for a plastic bag, you’ll be asked if you want that book gift wrapped. I say, “get it gift wrapped”! You’ll be taking home a lovingly wrapped parcel complete with exotic postage stamp(s).
You can always visit the extensive webshop later anyway.
