How many times do I have to say that in order to get to know a city you have to leave your comfort zone? Well, one more time could not hurt!

It’s summer, you are in Thessaloniki, you are hot -not in a cute way-, you are thirsty and you can’t be bothered to drive two hours to hit a (decent) beach but you still want that breezy, life-is-wonderful feeling. Am I right?

If you go to the west side, in Neapoli, a new “oasis” has been created  called “Avli” which translates to “The Yard”. “Avli” is indeed an old yard turned into a fantastic open-air coffee bar covered with trees & built with natural materials to create a  “wild”, tropical feeling. The tranquillity and remoteness you feel is phenomenal, considering that one of the busiest streets in the city is less than 100m away. I love the multi-layered setup of “Avli” which can accommodate simultaneously the solo traveller who wishes to have a quiet read and a coffee or a group of friends who celebrate with bubbly and shots! The cocktails are a must-try, the food is also great and the staff are friendly and professional. The decoration and small details of “Avli” will just amaze you and you will adore the smell of blooming flowers around you.

I suggest that you visit “Avli” in the morning or afternoon as it gets really busy at night and there will be a waiting list.
