Summer cinemas have a long tradition in Thessaloniki. Over the previous decades there were too many open-air cinemas in every neighborhood of the city with numerous visitors. Indicatively, in the mid ’60s there were more than 80 winter cinemas and over 100 summer cinemas. This is related to the golden age of Greek cinema from 1960 to 1973, reaching up to 97 movies a year.
Today, only 7 open air cinemas run in the city. Nevertheless, they are very popular during the summer months. One of the oldest open-air cinemas in Thessaloniki, Cine Natali has been running since 1970 on Alexandrou Blvd next to the sea. It’s “tradition” for you to go with your friends or your date/partner to a movie and then for a relaxed walk in the cool summer breeze on the seaside and discuss the movie you just watched.
If you appreciate cinema and you love the open air-summer cinemas, then certainly Cine Natali is a great choice since it is located within the city, with daily screenings, while the prices are affordable for everyone.
