If you are looking for a dynamic sport which can be practiced all year long and can replace your boring gym workout, rowing might be the solution. When you walk through the regenarated new coast of Thessaloniki, you will notice that the linear peaceful continuity is interrupted by the existence of a couple of ordinary-looking industrial buildings. These buildings are the infrastructure facilities of ‘Friends of the Sea Club’.  Recently, Nikos Gountoulas a world rowing champion and Olympian, started the operation of the ‘Coastal Rowing Club of Thessaloniki’ within the ‘Friends of the Sea Club‘.

The coastal rowing is a more extreme version of the traditional rowing because you practice it in open sea and not in flat water. Moreover it is much more fun to row while gazing the urban scenery of Thessaloniki!

Nikos, along with Vassilis, the other coach of the club, will give you a warm welcome and design a coaching programme for your needs as a newbie. At first you will learn the basic rowing technique by practicing in the indoor rower (rowers call it ergometer) and when you gain the necessary experience you will try the rowing simulator! Which believe me is lots of fun! And then, when coach Nikos give the green light, you will try the real thing and row in a boat!

The group is already international as some foreigners are enrolled to the programme, so don’t worry about the language. The instructors are prepared to adjust their coaching routine for English-speakers.
