Back in the 1900s Thessaloniki was at its prime: a commercial hub, a busy port and a melting pot of all races and cultures,  it was the businessman’s favourite “playground”. Combining “l ‘air occidental” with the modernities of the western world, it was a safe and enjoyable place for affluent Europeans to relocate. Ideally, you would be on the east side, right next to the sea where all the mansions were located. That is probably what Ioannis Marokkos -an Austrian citizen-  also thought when he bought his gorgeous home in 1906, right in the heart of the posh resort area of Thessaloniki.

Though “posh” or “resort” has now little to do with this area, “Epavli Marokkou” -as it is now named- is indeed a beautiful mansion turned into a compelling all-day coffee and dining space. Though it was fully renovated in 2018, most of the neoclassical architectural elements have been preserved, keeping that 1900s atmosphere alive.

If you enjoy a great glass of wine with excellent international cuisine, this is the place to order it, as the basement of Epavli Marokkou turned-cellar and private dining area will definitely meet your expectations. The prices are very reasonable, not at all “mansion-like”, so come over for a coffee or a bottle of Epavli Marokko’s own brand of fantastic wines and tsipouro!
