Museums are not considered to be much fun, right? Wrong! First of all, Thessaloniki’s folk art museum is located in a fabulous 1900s mansion named Villa Modiano, so the building itself is a must-visit and an amazing place to walk into. Moreover, though the museum is humble, its exhibits are very interesting and showcase the everyday lives of locals in the previous century. It doesn’t really take you that long to go through them.
Thirdly -and perhaps most importantly- there is a brilliant, cute and quaint café in the beautiful garden of the museum where you can end your visit in the most delightful way. It is a child and pet-friendly café where you can unwind after a long day or finish your tour if you went out and about in the east side of Thessaloniki.
In the summer there are live jazz concerts and all sorts of exhibitions you may enjoy while relaxing in the shade of the huge trees surrounding the whole area. It is the definition of calmness and relaxation and a place I choose when I genuinely wish to rest my head from all the noise and fuss of Thessaloniki’s busy roads! Though you are not obliged to enter the museum if you wish to only stay at the café, I must insist that you will regret not paying a visit to this architectural gem. I am a local; trust me!
