I wonder, “What are dreams made of?” The answer may lie in the toy store “Lilipoupoli” with its famous wooden facade in the center of Thessaloniki.
The store was founded in 1981 by George Philipoglou, “the tall man with the glasses”, as I remember him from my childhood, who has been running the shop for 35 years. The difference between this toy store and the others is, initially, the quality of the toys. It offers classic and modern toys made from recyclable, natural materials like wood, fabric and metal, in modern designs, as well as various objects for children’s rooms, such as lamps and small pieces of furniture.
The crisis did not affect the quality of the toys or the identity of the store but it did keep the toys at affordable rates. Although children today belong to the generation that is obsessed with electronic devices, these toys promote imagination and creativity through wooden tools that can be used for construction, solar systems, microscopes, figures, rag dolls, airplanes and more. Our dreams are identical to the toys we played with when we were young so they deserve to be the very best!
