There are many pubs and restaurants that serve beer in Tirana, but there is only one that brews its own beer. Located just at the entrance of my all-time-favourite district, “Blloku”, finding Brauhaus can at first be a challenge, but it is without doubt a beautiful peculiarity of this hidden place. This area, also called “Shallvaret” in Tirana, which in a nutshell means a cacophony of colours, tastes and people, is more like the picture of a medieval fair. You will know that you’ve reached it, because the buildings are painted with all the colours of the rainbow.
What makes BrauHaus so special is its own beer factory. During a visit, the very friendly staff took us out on a tour at the small brewery located in the basement so I could literally see where the beer I was drinking came from. Moreover, this place respects the old German Beer Purity Law, which makes their beers good, quality ones. At the moment they produce blonde, red and unfiltered beer, ranging from 4.5 to 6.5% alcohol. Of course, what better way to enjoy a fresh brew than with some delicious mix of local sausages and cheese?
When I go to BrauHaus, I really enjoy their homemade chips along with their way of cooking meat. Do not fear, vegetarian options are also available!
