This is an app about local spots- and if there ever was a local spot, it would be a place to get BBQ in a warehouse in an industrial park in the East of the city. Adamson Barbecue fits that bill. Situated in the middle of nowhere, if you’re willing to make the trek, you’ll be very well rewarded.
The East end can get the short end of the stick from tourists, who often favour the central and west end of the city. As a native, I’m no exception- I often don’t go east of Jarvis for much at all. However, Adamson’s is a reminder that gems are to be found when you break out of your comfort zones. Situated in a large warehouse, Adamson Barbecue shells out delicious smoked meats by the pound. This is a no frills spot- just the way I like it.
On the menu is mouthwatering brisket, smoked turkey, massive sausages and dinosaur-sized ribs, all slathered in homemade barbecue sauce. Sides of coleslaw, baked beans and potato salad top it off. This is not a place to go when on a cleanse. The food is heavy, but oh so worth it. You’ll be served on metal trays and sit at picnic tables, and the decor is limited to a Texas flag on the wall- but the ambiance is not why you go here. It’s the amazing food.
Pro tip- come early, because when they run out of food (and they always do), they close!
