Oh the CNE! Toronto’s end-of-summer tradition filled with rides, midway games, shopping and animals. But for my friends and I – the CNE is ALL about food. There’s always a lot of build up to the fair and what their crazy food offerings will be every year – this year the docket includes a 24K gold burger, Korean frog legs, the rainbow KitKat crepe, the mac and cheese popsicle, and deep fried cheese curds. I tried the Korean frog legs and they were pretty great – just like chicken, except a lot less meat.
The traditional food options are always our go-to — they’re fair favourites for a reason! We indulged in multiple ice cream waffle sandwiches, perogies with onions, grilled corn on the cob, and mini donuts with powdered sugar. Between our indulgences, we wandered through the craft building looking at local vendors, checked out the piglets, cows, sheep and llamas in the farm building, caught the SuperDog show where the cutest pups do the most impressive tricks, and wandered through the flashing lights of the midway.
The CNE runs from Aug 17 to Sept 3 this year. Each day has a different schedule, with varying performances, concerts, competitions and guest appearances. Whether you go for the midway games, the concerts, shopping or food – the CNE is a unique summer experience you don’t want to miss.
