Who doesn’t love a good burger? There’s a lot of well-known burger joints in Toronto but most are focused on loading up their burgers with endless toppings, making eating them without making a mess almost impossible. It was a colleague of mine that suggested I check out Rudy before going to see a film at The Royal Cinema (check out the article) right across the street.
With just a handful of seating and minimal decor, Rudy has a simple menu offering cheeseburgers, double cheeseburgers, fried chicken sandwiches, and a few sides like coleslaw, poutine, fries and deep fried pickles. They also serve milkshakes which looked fantastic and got rave reviews from my friend.
I went for the Rudy – the cheeseburger with the “rudy sauce” and I shared an order of deep fried pickles and ranch dip with my friend — a must since it was too big a portion for just one. The burger was excellent – simple toppings, a juicy burger, great sauce and the perfect size! If I was the Goldilocks of hamburgers I would say this one was “just right!” And funny enough – it was Rudy himself who was cooking up the burgers behind the counter! I’m not sure if this is the norm but it was a nice surprise.
Rudy just recently opened a new and more central location at 69 Duncan St. A better option if you’re staying closer to the entertainment district.
